Today 3G mobile
telecommunication systems supporting multimedia
services are built in several European countries,
but international researches already deal with
the theoretical and practical questions of B3G
and 4G systems. Researches concerning mobile and
wireless telecommunication and information
systems and services have an essential role in
R&D programs of the European Union and in the
supporting system of scientific researches of the
United States, as well.
One of the biggest
challenges of the new generation of the mobile
and wireless systems is the integration and
interoperability of different technologies. The
future telecommunication systems will be
user-centred grouping their services around the
user, implementing their applications to the
complete satisfaction of the user, and for this
reason, open and flexible networks are built.
The MOBILE
INNOVATION CENTRE (MIK) was founded as a result
of the call for proposals "The Establishment
of R&D and Innovation Centre for Mobile
Communication" supported by the National
Office for Research and Technology. The Centre is
based on the cooperation of universities, an
academic research institution, industrial
companies, suppliers and organisations dealing
with scientific research and innovation,
including the representatives of profit-oriented
and non-profit sectors.
Similar
technological centres can only be found in a few
advanced countries. The MIK is a consortial
partnership founded by 17 consortial partners
(listed on the backside). The Mobile Innovation
Centre was established to solve the scientific
and technological questions which contribute to
the clearing up of the problems existing in
future mobile and wireless systems, to the
implementation of 3G services and to the
introduction of later mobile and wireless
communication technologies and to the development
of the up-to-date applications on the systems.
Furthermore, its aim is to draw in small and
medium sized enterprises into the above-mentioned
topics.
The Mobile
Innovation Centre operates on its centralized
site and on its virtual sites. The centralized
part of the MIK is formed in the "Z"
building of Budapest University of Technology and
Economics with a test-bed, administrative and
service units. The mission of the Mobile
Innovation Centre starting with a unique
professional profile and an up-to-date
communication environment and a testing system
for improving and testing the latest mobile and
wireless applications consists of the following
essential elements and will be enlarged and
modified according to the fast changing trends
and research results:
- Supporting
the research and development of
high-speed mobile and wireless
technologies, including the B3G
technological trends following the 3G
mobile systems.
- Promoting the
implementation of 3G/4G mobile and
wireless technologies and network
services and the systems and applications
based on these technologies and testing
them in an independent environment.
- Encouraging
the establishment, development and
practical use of the latest mobile and
wireless technologies/services.
- Supporting
the tough cooperation of universities,
industrial companies and small and medium
size enterprises, and supporting small
and medium sized enterprises established
for the development of mobile and
wireless technologies and services.
The Mobile
Innovation Centre will actively participate in
the research and development programs initiated
by the European Union, increases its own
incomings from domestic and international
financial resources and maintains itself from its
own products, services, applications and research
and development contracts. Besides the research
purposes, the formed testing system will be
accessible for the domestic partner companies
producing, distributing telecommunication devices
and developing telecommunication services for
whom, it will be able to make tests without
investing into their own testing system. The
Mobile Innovation Centre aims to build new
international relationships, join the research
programs of the European Union, promote the
change of researchers, draw in students and PhD
degree-holders, and make its relationships with
the project-partners fruitful.
In the long term,
the Mobile Innovation Centre strives for becoming
the regional research and development centre of
Hungary, and encourages the settlement of
international high-tech companies and their
capital investment in Hungary, contributing to
the general raising of the technological level of
the country, the creation of new workplaces and
this way to the economic development of the
country.
